Grease lightning!

8:53 PM

"Grease is the word!" So in case some of y'all don't know, Grease is a musical that started off in Chicago in 1971, which was then premiered on Broadway in 1972. Soon after made into a film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The Australia cast is on tour and is here in Singapore! Watched it with my friend last night and despite the expensive tickets (like any other musicals) I thoroughly enjoyed myself! I have always been a fan of musicals, and one day I wish to travel to New York and watch Broadway musicals! I think this kind of started as I watched Glee years ago, music, dancing and acting all at once? PERFECT.

So my obsession for musicals kind of started from the past few years I've watched Wicked, The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady and last night Grease! Since Singapore has started this form of arts appreciation I cannot be happier coz' its definitely my cup of tea. I've not watched the movie but through Glee I kind of get a gist of the story and I've definitely heard some of the songs before, which includes, You're the one that I want and Summer Nights. I was kind of afraid I would be too sleepy for the show coz' school drains out all my energy and for My Fair Lady, I was so tired I lost focus, but to my defense I did play under the sun for 2+ hours during CCA, and heat is not my best friend. But to my surprise, Grease actually kept me energized and it was exhilarating.

The songs are different from other musicals since it was set in the 1950s, they are mostly rock hence the strong beats and fast paced songs. And another cool thing about it being rock is that instead of having an orchestra, it was a live band, like drums, electric guitar and bass band, which was super cool. I really love Gretal Scarlett (Sandy on the show)'s voice, its powerful and wonderfully suited for the role. Stephen Marty(Danny on the show) is incredibly talented as well but I didn't think his voice was really suited for the role, I think John Travolta's voice fitted the character quite nicely though. I like that the other cast members were able to sing solos as well, not just the 2 main characters and they performed wonderfully. The songs and energy are so infectious, you just can't help but to bop and mouth the lyrics to the songs! The mega mix at the end of the show was really the highlight since the cast comes together and the whole audience stands up and clap/dance/sing along to the music. It's just absolutely wonderful and I had a great time. The choreography was amazing and the costumes were beautiful and well designed.

Overall, the show was incredible and I'd love to watch it again. Unfortunately, tomorrow's their last show. So so happy I got to watch it and it really made my week!

Music Lovin' #4 (Unwell - Matchbox Twenty)

9:11 PM

Recently heard this song on the radio and kinda fell in love with it again? According to the lead singer, this song is about people who are "F--ked up and feel alone like that, We all feel a little f--ked up sometimes... you're not alone." Unwell is about having a despondent relationship with yourself. In the end, it's a positive song, because you come to terms with the fact you're not crazy. I think this song would speak for everyone at least once in your life. It's alright to feel whatever you want to feel as long as pick yourself up after that. Hope y'all like the song as much I did.

Music Lovin' #3 - Don't Stop Believin' (Journey cover) - Glee

3:29 PM

An absolute old favourite of mine. If you didn't know, I was a glee fanatic (also known as a gleek). Why was and not am? Well, I actually stopped watching glee regularly since halfway through season 3, right after their Christmas episode and it was on their mid season break. I'm not sure what made me stop, even though I love Mark Salling (also Puck on the show) and Lea Michele (Rachel) and I'm a die hard Puckleberry shipper (I ship Puck and Rachel together on the show), still am and I'm still reading fanfics to keep the fan in me alive. And even though I'm not a Finchel shipper, Cory Monteith's death was still a devastating news to me.

As a gleek, I've gotten used to seeing Cory on the show and for a show that I've loved so much (I actually bought almost every album for the first 3 seasons) you get emotionally attached to it. So for season 5, I've watched the tribute episode and of course the 100th episode, which was a 2 parter, since EVERYONE was back and I've missed them on the screen so much. It reminded me of the times where I was so in love with the show and all the characters on it. It was of course a sore spot since Finn no longer was on the screen but it was a reunion indeed. I think from season 3 onwards, the storyline was no longer as good as it was before, introducing new characters that I don't feel for made matters worse. I'm not saying the new cast is untalented. They are. They're amazing singers, dancers and actors. But I fell in the love with the characters in show since season 1, with unfamiliar faces and a story line I can no longer relate to (and honestly kinda bored me) I'm not as excited to see a new episode anymore. I still love the music though, and even though I don't watch it frequently, I would listen to songs they covered.

So back to the song, Don't Stop Believin' was the song they covered at the end of their pilot in season 1. Even though up till now they have 4 covers of it, they're all a little different, I love every single one of them. It brings tears to my eyes because it was a song filled with happiness, sadness, and a song that brought all these characters together. This is the newest cover they made for the 100th episode, and it showcases many more voices. It's just kinda bittersweet to me, and I've been listening to it almost everyday since. A pretty lengthy post for Music Lovin' but gleek or not, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Music Lovin' #2 (Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind)

5:04 PM

Disclaimer: Please read the paragraph below before listening to this song.
Welcome back to Music Lovin'! A song that I've discovered about a month ago, but very much familiar to me is Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. I heard this song while watching one of the many beauty vidoes (yes i watch beauty videos, looking at people putting on make up and stuff seems quite interesting and entertaining for me.) I watch. Heard this song in the background and I immediately had to google it, I'm not sure if the song seems quite familiar to you people coz' this song was actually featured in many movies in the 90s. It very much sounded like something I heard from the intro of movies. It was also a major hit of the 1990s, reaching number four in the U.S. I didn't know this till today actually, this song was actually about drug overdose on crystal meth while having sex. Totes unexpected. I hope this doesn't give you wrong ideas... I like this song because of the beat and how uplifting it is... Kinda misleading, but please don't hate me for this! Sorry for being ignorant! But I guess this is disclaimer out there, if you don't like the meaning behind the song, STOP CLICK OUT OF THIS POST RIGHT NOW. But if you're like me and tend to ignore the lyrics' meaning go on and listen, and don't get too offended by it? Wait, but this does not mean that I don't care about songs' lyrics and meaning. I like it when songs' have meanings and are relatable but sometimes you can still enjoy the music without having to think too much about the meaning behind it. Anyhoos, hopefully those that decided to click play on the video have enjoyed the song as well. Toodles & till next time!

Music Lovin' #1 (Be Okay - Oh Honey)

8:46 PM

I'm gonna be starting a new series of posts to feature songs I've been liking lately! Some new and old songs depending on what I've been listening to! This series will be called " Music Lovin' " & this is the first one! Be Okay by Oh Honey. Amazing song to be jamming to definitely something to listen to during happy times! (: First heard this through Glee since they made a cover. They're both equally good. I think the song is rather new? (in 2013, is that counted new?) Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Till next time!

Caring too much

10:31 PM

I think I care too much. I'm afraid of judgements and I care a lot more about what people think of me than I should. I'm worried that people dislike/hate me. I try my very best to be nice to everyone so that conflicts don't arise. Is being nice a bad thing? Will my niceness and kindness be a weakness of mine? And that I'd be taken advantage of? I feel like this niceness is becoming a definition of me. It's unpleasant to know that people think I'm nice, but that just sounds awfully boring and like I have no other personality other than being a nice person. My friend told me that the vibe I give off resembles a doormat. Which is kind of undesirable? It's sounds like I'm an extremely boring person that can be stepped all over? I've always felt like I'm an extremely boring person that doesn't attract much attention from people. Thinking that I'm socially awkward and boring which is why people just don't click with me or is just merely an acquaintance. I feel like I'm easily forgotten and mostly invisible. I try my best to talk to people and try to connect with them but I'm probably off their social circle radar. I'm kinda tired of people just thinking that I'm nice and that's the end of it. This insecurity and fear of judgements is overwhelming me. I'm envious of people who can have quite a big social circle with many close friends. I'm not saying I don't have close friends but sometimes these close friends have their own other friends, and I sometimes just feel quite left out. That's when I feel lonely. This is definitely different from being alone. I like solitude. But this is a different thing altogether. I'm a hypersensitive person who tends to over think and feel things too deeply. And it's exhausting being a highly sensitive person because all these emotions just get caught up with me, overwhelming me and make me a mess. It takes a while for me to get comfortable around people and it takes even longer for people to get to know me. Mainly because it takes a while for people to earn my trust? I tend to keep quite a lot of things to myself before things get too much and I need to get everything out of my system. When I'm upset, I like to have my space and I need to wait for the "right" moment to talk it out. Usually by then I'm already an emotional wreck. I take a lot of things personally, and its really bad. I think too much into things. Most people just think I'm a super cheerful person but the truth is contrary to that, I'm actually quite negative. Maybe I'm a bit better now? More positive? Either that or I can hide it better. I don't want cause any problems for people and just prefer to keep my problems and feelings hidden. Which also comes back to what people think of me. I don't want to be a doormat and my friend mentioned that either I have a breakthrough to alter my image or just face the fact that I can't please each and everyone. Sometimes its not worth it to chase a friendship that is not meant to be. I think a breakthrough since appropriate but its not as easy as it sounds. I guess this blog is just a medium for me to express my feelings instead of just bottling up. Its thoroughly exhausting and I don't know what to do to get rid of these feelings.

Singles Awareness Day!

11:02 PM

Starting off with a video to share with you people out there. Okay technically Valentines day is over in Singapore, but I'm sure there're countries still celebrating it! To all those who are all lovey dovey in a relationship, good for you? (I guess.. If that's what makes you happy) But to all those Singletons out there. Fret not! I'm here for you, actually we have an internet support group that would have your back. I mean, not everyone is attached and you don't need a significant other to feel good about yourself. Girls out there, we need no man. We don't need guys to buy us stuff to make ourselves happy, we can buy chocolate for ourselves. I mean think about it. And it's not the end of the world if you're not in a relationship, I'm not in a relationship. (Well, maybe i'm just socially awkward and don't talk to the male species in general) BUT IT'S OKAY. EVERYTHING'S ALRIGHT. I for one had dinner with my best friend last night, so one tip for all those singletons out there, having a fun day/night out with your friends/family. It doesn't matter if you're surrounded by couples, DARE TO BE DIFFERENT. Defy the norm, I mean conforming to the norm is so over rated. And if your friends/family are attached or have plans already, you can still have a great time on your own. If you don't want to feel miserable having to go out and see all these lovebirds in your face, just stay in. Sleep the whole night away, have a good rest and it's the perfect time coz' no one will bother you. And the night will be over so quickly you'll never know. Or you know, have some me time. If you have a pet, hug it. Have some awesome food and watch a movie or two. Watch a tv series like Friends (coz' its awesome and hilarious) Read a book. Do things that you usually have no time for. And i feel like it's so cliched for all the couples to have to get out and have dinner, I mean you'd rather feel love all year round than just this one day. Valentines day is just another Friday, so those who feel really bothered by having no valentine? Just don't. It's okay to not have a Valentine. Plus point for not being in a relationship? You save lots of money, i mean you just need to spend on yourself. You don't need to spend on another person, that's half what those in a relationship have to spend (okay, maybe not so true in mathematical terms...) We're here for each other. :D

A better year ahead?

5:34 PM

                       Happy new year 🎄🎅🎉

Happy New Year!
And I'm back with an update!
2014 is pretty daunting since I'm gonna be taking my A levels this at the end of the year.
Not sure how I'm going to survive the year yet since I don't have motivation and self discipline most of the time... Let's reflect on 2013. Well, I guess 2013 was at least better than 2012 since I've started to actually adapted to the school (like finally) and have made great friends. Maybe they are not my closest friends, but they're pretty close. Well, one thing that I know I hated was falling out with my ex classmates. I guess we were never meant to be anything more than pure acquaintances, and I am really bad at conflict management so running away was what I did? Well considering they did ignore me comes to show that I'm not really worth it anyway. But let bygones be bygones and I choose to forget, I don't really know if I've actually forgiven? I guess forgetting seems way easier especially now that I won't be able to see them in school anymore.  Also, after a particular incident with a guy friend of mine, I kind of avoided him? Seems like 2013 is a year that I did a lot of avoiding? But thank goodness my classroom was secluded and I don't have to deal with seeing them too often. I think I was happier than I was in 2012. Things seem to be a little easier and less overwhelming. I guess the thing about my batch graduating is that I won't see them in school anymore? But they weren't the closest so I guess I wasn't all that sad about it. Sometimes I feel really selfish but I'm kinda glad the batch is gone. My current classmates were probably closer to some of their friends in the 2013 batch and I was jealous and envious that they got to spend time with and I'm just kind of wallowing in self pity because I don't have that? Its like sometimes they see someone they know and they can just stop and talk for a while, where I just stood awkwardly at the side not knowing what to do. I'm like the third wheel or something. Its awkward moments like that which makes me depressed coz' it seems like there's no one in the school that I am actually close to. It makes me seem really lonely. It's totally different from being alone. I can appreciate being alone and enjoying solitude but when I see my friends with company I just get jealous. Okay, maybe its enough of these like problems I had. Get on the good stuff! I manged to participate in my CCA's OCIP trip to Batam (which sounds really lame as compared to going to Philippines like we orginally planned) but nevertheless it's something. It was a really short trip though and I think even though I made acquaintances during this trip, it was not really impactful(?) but you get what I mean. In conclusion, 2013 was pretty okay I guess, but as compared to 2012, it was much better. Hopefully in 2014 it would be extra fine since I really need the luck and all. Before I end off I shall make a list of my resolutions for this year.
1) Eat healthier
2) Exercise every week
3) Do better in school
4) Spend less
5) Be nice
6) More disciplined
7) Smile more
8) Be Happy!
Hopefully I would be able to stick to my new years resolution. Here's wishing you guys (whoever y'all are) a Happy New Year and remember to smile more! :D

Stop Comparing

6:59 PM

Happiness
is found when
you stop
comparing
yourself to other
people.

Having a blog is just a place for me to rant about sad stuff. It seems like i never ever blog about any happy times. But assuming no one reads this it should be alright.
After a year filled with failures from last year, this year I believe I am doing better.
However, this is when expectations kick in. I don't want just a pass in my subjects, I want to do better than that. This isn't even about being easily contented just coz' I'm able to pass. But i feel like i should be doing better than that. I absolutely abhor the fact that I'm never going to ever be better than the others. Most of the times I feel like I don't belong there.
Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with these feelings but I don't really know who I can go to. People are either too busy with their work or with their other friends. I mentioned my tendency to hold people close to heart, but it isn't the case at the opposite end.
What am I good at really?
In a school filled with people who are smarter and more talented than me. I don't really know who I am and what I'll become. The saying that the people that appears the happiest are actually the saddest on the inside. People don't realise that do they? So tired of making a brave face, I'm not even sure if its a facade just so that people will like me or is that really me? No matter how positive I try to be does positive things really happen in my life? I really hate that I have to constantly put in more effort than the others to get what they have. People have a flair in sciences or in arts, whereas I have to put in extra effort into everything because I'm good at none. I get so tired of trying so hard to get people to like me and yet I'm not very sure if I really mean something to them. Which is why I'm so tired of being around them. Being alone is somehow my sanctuary because I can live without having to deal with people and away from the disappointment of me never being enough for them. I'm constantly giving but god, I'm so tired of not getting what i give.

Get past life, you'll be appreciated one day

8:13 PM

Life is unfair. You put someone first who puts you second. You study your ass off for a final but still you get a "B". You give 110% in a relationship to someone when they only give you 40%. You're there for your best friend at 3am when they needed you the most and the next day, they wont pick up their phones. You care so much for someone who does not care enough about you to say "Hi" even once. You give someone your time and they give you "Sorry. I'm busy". It seems like you're giving everyone your everything and they're just walking away and giving you back...NOTHING.

What I feel most of the time.
But I guess that's part of life, you have to deal with it.
You get what you give, so maybe one day, you'll be the opposite end.
One day, people will start appreciating you.
One day.
You just have to have faith.
