Some Life Updates

9:47 PM

Greetings people on the Internet! Its been 4 months since I last updated this space which I feel quite sad about since I wanted to commit to posting more frequently and also to keep a record of things I've done! But I guess I' sort of back? The past 4 months had passed by in a blur! With work, travelling, and the ending of my 8 months break to getting back to school, I've been pretty busy. I believe my break had been a fulfilling one. Though it would be great if it was even longer. School just started, this week being the first week, and its been stressful and daunting and (sorta exciting???) but not really. There's so many things that I need to get used to, so many things I'm still trying to understand, its been a rather rough week.

I'm not quite sure if I'm really liking the course or the school yet... I've met some really nice people so far though! . Work wise, I'm confused most of the time. There's a whole lot of math and I have a feeling I would actually start hating math. I used to really look forward to becoming a uni student and expected uni to be easier and more fun, but so far I think I'm mostly scared, worried and stressed out. It seems really challenging and I'm just lost. Hopefully, I'd be able to adapt and be more disciplined, hardworking and stuff. I would really need a University survival guide, like Ned's declassified school survival guide, but for university.

Oh and the picture above is a picture of me in front of a waterfall in Jeju, South Korea, which was where I went to last month! That's something I'd probably be posting in the future! So I guess that's all I'd like to talk about for now! Till next time, Cheers!

Moving Forward

4:36 PM

Let's just say my grades... are not so good. I'm not just talking about my school's standard but in general. It probably is sufficient for entering the local universities. Was I disappointed? Yes but I guess considering I wasn't the most hardworking or motivated person I could have been, I can't really complain. Of course I had expectations, and even though overall I did improve from my usual sucky school grades (all except one...), it doesn't make them less sucky. I did mourn over my grades but having to decide on what I want to do in uni was harder. First of all, I don't really have an idea of what I am interested in. Secondly, my choices are limited considering my grades. Thirdly, what's practical for the future.

Maybe some of you would say, just chase your dreams even if its not the common route, you can still succeed in life. You don't want to regret when you're stuck in a 9-5 job in an office. However, the problem now is, I don't even have a dream (I mean a realistic one). Of course I wanted to be a celebrity, a singer or theatre or some creative job or something, but in reality, I'm not exactly that talented. Yes, I can somewhat sing, but I'm not especially talented in music, neither can I dance or act. To make those dreams a reality, most would have gone through vocal trainings, dance from young, went for acting lessons and the list goes on. Well, I'm probably just a mediocre singer and I'm not exactly creative, so its pretty challenging to know what I'm good at and what I'm interested in. One thing I do know is that, I am extremely horrible in the sciences, other than math, and so I guess I'm slightly better in the humanities? So I came to the conclusion that I'd do something in the humanities or social sciences. My first choice is to get into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, also known as FASS, in NUS. I believe the chances are quite slim, since its pretty popular and my grades just suck big time. But I really really really do hope that I can be offered a place. Praying really really hard that I can.

Maybe some of you are also dealing with things not meeting your expectations or things not going your way. I might not be in the best position to tell you this since I can be pretty pessimistic, but just remember, be positive. Grades don't define who you are, neither do your failures or successes. (I'm not really sure what defines us though) Comparison steals joy, don't get caught up in comparisons or what people have to say. As long as whatever you do is morally right , why should you bother about what they have to say. Ultimately, you are you, no one can change that.  And you know what? Things are going to be okay in the end so if they're not, then its not the end.

January & February 2015

2:04 AM

Its been a month! And I wanted to post all the happy stuff before tomorrow when my mood is likely to be shitty. The long awaited (for me) January & February compilation!
My friends came to visit me at work which was really sweet for them! But we took this chance to celebrate my friend's Birthday! I think she was slightly surprised! SO SUCCESS!
Thats about it in January since I was mostly working, sleeping and eating. Social life = 0

Come February which is nearing Chinese New Year, we had to have our yearly steamboat reunion dinner just the four of us and my sis' boyfriend & not to forget our dog! Who had too much tofu and puked right after that.
We also went back to Jakarta for the new year! Our flight was delayed once again... No surprise there. But the above picture was taken after our reunion dinner with my maternal extended family. My sis, me and my nieces! I have no idea what I was looking at... Ruining a perfectly good picture.
Second day of CNY, a family photo.
Also I forgot to mention that I had been coughing and had a major runny nose for 2 weeks leading up to CNY... My nose had been a real joy to have... And when I got back to Singapore... That turned into a fever and non stop puking. That was not fun.. AT ALL. Seems like I'm more suited to stay in Indo than to come back. Appetite has not been good, you know how miserable it is to look at all the good food and yet not able to devour them all???

This was taken Friday night with my colleagues who have left me behind... :((
Gonna be missing them... Also fewer lunch buddies at work. Thankful to have met them though! That's about it for the 2 months, nothing much exciting since I've been holed up either in the office or home. I think I have some missing events in between but these were basically the bigger moments? Hope y'all had been well for the past 2 months! Now I have to get back to reality and my nerves. Till next time!

Music Lovin' #13 (Year 3000 - Busted)

12:09 AM

Hi people on the internet! Maybe some of you have heard of this song by the Jonas Brothers but in actual fact, the song was originallu performed by Busted! The song is pretty meaningless but its a fun song nonetheless. I'm pretty busy nowadays since I now have a job! Its not that bad so far, tiring yes but not horrible. I need the money anyway... For my pocket money. Anyway, hopr everyone's having a great start in the new year and maybe jam out with this song? Till next time! Cheerio!

2014 in a (not so) nutshell

12:37 AM

2014 just flew past in a blink of an eye. The year hasn't been easy since its the year of the A levels. There has been ups and downs, happy and sad times but I guess they are experiences that I need to go through to grow. As much as I hate myself for not putting my best effort into the exams, as unmotivated as I was, its too late to regret and it had been done. Alright since I didn't do a September, October, November or December roundup, this is going to be an all encompassing post.

First up, Graduation in mid October. (September was quite a boring month with prelims and all so nothing much to talk about) Our class didn't participate in the school's graduation ceremony so we ended up having a small gathering at my form teacher's place with some of our teachers. To be honest, initially I was quite bummed out since we didn't get to graduate with the rest of the cohort, but I realised an intimate get together was more suited for us and it was a great night of fun and laughter (also some tears???) We had steamboat and ate our fill of our body weight, talking at the rooftop and were given our school bear! How cute are they! Of course we had to show our appreciation to the teachers so we got gifts for them! Its definitely a night to remember before hell began and since we didn't attend prom, it was also the last time we are together as a class in a less formal setting.

Really thankful for this class and though we're not the most bonded class and we all have our differences, we managed to be in harmony and be somewhat comfortable around each other? (Maybe I'm not so comfortable with guys) I managed to meet people I consider as some of my closest friends so even though we met under not so desirable conditions but I'm glad nonetheless.

Class 13S6J in our truest form (:

I've also attended my cousin's wedding in Jakarta, no pictures of the wedding but here's an airplane wing to prove that I flew there.

Of course November was the A levels and hence the lack of pictures and fun stuff.
After the end of A levels, I went for eyebrow threading! Not gonna show my eyebrows here coz' its kinda weird but yeah that's what I did and some shopping here and there.

Next, in December I went to Jakarta to visit and accompany and my grandma for about a week and a half. I didn't do much there since I couldn't go anywhere without a car and a driver. So I spent most of my days at my grandma's place rotting and binge watching shows. I provided more a physical company and mostly in silence coz' I have no idea what to talk about with my grandma. Also, she recently had another stroke and it affected her speech so I find it hard to understand what she was saying and I think it frustrates her as well. My uncle did bring me out of dinner from time to time with my cousin since my uncle's family were all in LA and he was only flying there in the same week I was there. I wanted to watch Interstellar really badly but they kinda stopped showing in the cinemas. Ended up watching Doraemon , s
Stand by me, since my cousins wanted to watch (they're younger than me by a few years btw). I thought Doraemon wouldn't be that popular since it was an animation but I was so wrong. The queue on the first day was so long and filled with adults all wanting to watch Doraemon on a weekday! Plus the tickets were all sold out! Unbelievable. The movie was alright, and guess what? I didn't cry! Its actually the finale to Doraemon so it was bound to be heartwarming.

I actually went to this mall thrice in that week and that was the christmas tree there! It was raining so we couldn't get a nicer picture. I also attended my nephew's birthday party to celebrate his 2nd birthday! Again no pictures because I didn't take any. Did some shopping during my trip but not much. I swear I got rounder since I ate so much and my grandma cinstantly make me eat food even when I was not hungry. :/ but food in Indo is too good to resist. Some of my favourites are Nasi Uduk (mixed rice, the rice is flavoured and with side dishes like potato and veggie), pempek (resembles fishcake but chewier), Medanese fried Kway Teow and Bakso(meatball) etc. Soon, I was back in Singapore and sad that I had to leave my grandma.

Back to rotting at home but I did manage to get out of the house to meet my friends for breakfast( no picture again) of local hawker food and on the same night was invited to my friend's place for dinner since it was her birthday. On the next day, which was Christmas eve, my family went on a short trip to Johor Bahru for Christmas.

Met up with my secondary school choir friends for lunch and catch up since we haven't seen each other for half a year already. Also to celebrate my friend's belated birthday, we shared the cake since we didn't manage to celebrate mine. It was great catching up with them.
That's about it for the last 4 months and they weren't that exciting (I think I've forgotten some stuff as well) but December is always my favourite month!

I've finally graduated from JC in 2014 and I believe that was my greatest achievement of the year. Hopefully 2015 will be better and on this note, its time for my resolutions!
1) Be more active and be fit (always a failure)
2) be more thrifty! And get more jobs! Though people always say money can't buy happiness but it brings security and thats a necessity in life
3) be more selfless by volunteering more! In this current age where selfishness is apparent, I want to be able to empathize others and make other people's lives better, defying the norm! Less about me and more about others!
4) be kinder
5) be happy

Not sure if they will pan out but lets just try to stick to it! But here are some wishes I have for the new year!
1) Get into NUS with a course I don't hate
2) everyone around me to be happy and healthy
3) and as cliched as it sounds, world peace.
All the terrorist attacks and killings and disasters are devastating. 2014 hasn't been a great year for aviation with all the missing planes and crashing, my heart goes out to the family members that lost their loved ones. With that said, I hope everyone would have a great new year's eve and look forward to a better 2015. Till next year! Cheerio!

Its Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

3:32 PM

Hey people on the internet! Since its the first of December, it means CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!! (You have no idea how excited I am) 24 days to Christmas everybody!!! Here are some gingerbread cookies that I baked to celebrate the start of December, my favourite month and time of the year! Although my family doesn't celebrate Christmas, I just love the festive season, the lights, the food, the smell, the weather (no it doesn't snow here, a girl can dream) and especially, the CHRISTMAS SONGS! Let's be honest, I've already started listening to Christmas songs in November (no shame here) and while I was trying to study last month (coughs coughs) I was rocking to Christmas songs and I made an entire playlist of it on Spotify! Here's the link if you're interested to rock along to my favourite Christmas songs http://open.spotify.com/user/belindangwr/playlist/0vGyDZWXxy8JmvWTSzqmQI

Go check it out!!! Its amaze balls.

Not to forget there's no school during December so HOLIDAY YAY. There's no winter here, just rain, rain and more rain so my love for sweaters and anything cozy is irrelevant here... Sighs. I guess I will be watching some Christmas movies! Like Elf, Love Actually or Home Alone! Its not something that I always do but since I'm stuck at home most of the time might as well start a new tradition! If only I could decorate my room to make it more festive but my room is too cluttered for that. Anyway hope everyone has a good month ahead and enjoy the festivities! Do check out my Spotify playlist and give it a follow if you like it! Till next time! Cheerios!

Music Lovin' #12 (No Matter Where You Are - Us The Duo)

12:23 PM

Hello people!!!! I'M FINALLY BACK! A levels are not over yet but the major papers are overrrr(*happy dance*) I'm left with one last paper which I still need to study for. I'm glad that As are almost over and done with but at the same time sad coz' honestly they're pretty sucky and I don't think I'll fare well. Can't really do anything about them anymore but I'm hoping the outcome won't be horrendous like I think they are.

Anyhooo, music is my life if you haven't realise so of course there's gonna be some songs that i've been replaying non-stop like this one!! Maybe some of you might realise its from the movie The Book Of Life. But the singers were actually Youtubers and they're now signed under Republic Records if I'm not wrong. Yes this duo is a couple and they first sang this song on their wedding! They wrote a song that was practically their vows!!!! AWWWWWWW its so incredibly sweet that I always feel warm and fuzzy inside when I listen to it. Their relationship is to die for. Such a cute couple and their other songs are pretty awesome too coz' almost all the songs they've written are like blurbs of their relationship. But recently I've realised that many of their original songs are taken down from YouTube. I think its because of them being like legit artistes under a label now. Their covers are still on their channel though so be sure to check them out if interested. One favourite of mine would be their TV medley, to be honest I don't know all the songs but they sang it so wonderfully that i still love it anyway.

They're actually gonna be in Singapote ti perform on 10 December with Gentle Bones as the guest! Gentle Bones is local talent actually and he's in my school alumni. He's on YouTube as well! Not all of his songs are my cup of tea but he's pretty talented. I kinda wanna go for their gig but I'll be overseas and maybe my obssession with them is just a phase. They have a music video of No Matter Where You Are as well for the movie!

Typed this entire post on my phone so I apologise if there are any spelling mistakes. My sister's Macbook is kinda wonky right now so I'm not gonna risk spoiling it in my hands. Been listening to T Swift's 1989 as well but i think I'm gonna write up a separate post on it.
My spotify playlists have been so on point. I'll share my link another time though and probably talk a bit about it as well coz' I'm too lazy to do that right now. Typing a blog post on my phone is not very easy. Till next time! Cheers!

Music Lovin' #11 (Miracles Happen - Myra)

10:33 PM

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating for 2 weeks but i'm trying to eliminate distractions so yes blogging is one of them, which I don't even think I've been very successful anyway... So yes i''m hoping and praying really hard that a miracle can happen and I won't screw up As badly... Its terrifying. Laziness is like a part of me now that I can't even control distractions are EVERYWHERE. Whoever that's reading this blog please pray for me too, I desperately need it.

By the way I'm effing terrified by you readers coz' I have no flipping idea who y'all are and I'm trying my best to not put myself so out there. Whatever thats on the internet stays on the internet and I have no idea if whatever I've written would be placed against me sometime in the future. I'm fine with strangers reading all these but people who know me personally? (Or just people around me in general) its quite embarrassing & awkward. And you know what if I happen to be ranting about them or something (which I shouldn't be putting online but this was meant to be an outlet and to talk about things I like) So yes especially seeing readers from Singapore, effing scary.

Anyway back to the song its from the movie The Princess Diaries, which was originally a book series, one of my favourite Disney movie of all time, Anna Hathaway anyone? And also I love the books by Meg Cabot, not very educational but its funny and easy to read, sue me. The song is just a fun and uplifting so enjoy!

I'll be on hiatus for a month or so unless i decide to vent my frustrations about exams and stress(this better motivate me). The blog would likely be more interesting and more frequently updated after As coz I can then play without guilt! Till next time! Cheerio!

All About That Bass (Meghan Trainor) Cover

10:30 PM

Hi people! I'm back with a cover of a song which I've been loving lately! All About The Bass! It's basically about loving yourself regardless of how you look which brings a great message about body image! Problems of body image is pretty prevalent in the world, girls especially because of how the media presents beauty. We see all the models on magazines and celebrities and we choose to believe that all these people depicts what we call beauty. However, they're not perfect, neither are we, but we are all beautiful in our own ways. Beauty is subjective and being skinny does not equate to being pretty. You should be confident, just because you may be a littler chubbier does not make you ugly. People do tell me that I'm fat and I'll get upset over those comments. So maybe I'm not one to convince you that you shouldn't let judgements get to you but I'm trying to ignore those comments. Its difficult, when I'm surrounded by people who are thinner than me and I do envy those people sometimes. However, you have to learn how to be confident in your own skin. I'm trying to lose weight, though I'm mostly caught between "I AM PERFECT JUST THE WAY I AM" & "I'M FAT", usually I'm just too lazy to make a change by exercising or eating healthier (less). Even if you want to lose weight, you should do it healthily and not go through extreme methods like extreme dieting or eating diet pills or result in an eating disorder. I know I'm not a professional but if you really want to slim down, you should exercise and eat healthy. Currently, I'm trying to get more active but the eating healthy part is not really in my routine because I LOVE food and also its pretty difficult to eat healthy since breakfast is not really within my control (I have to eat whatever my mum makes or what my dad buys), I have lunch in school and my dinner is catered from a catering service.

To be more active, little changes like walking more or have really short workouts would be great, there are plenty of workouts on YouTube (check out blogilates) too. Check out this app PumpUp, which is basically like a social media platform for people trying to get fit. You'll get a lot of motivation from other users and some ideas as to what you can do! I know I'm getting a little addicted to the app. Exercising is great because it relieves stress from releasing endorphins and it is not just for losing weight but to stay fit too.

Most importantly, you need to have the right mindset, you will do all these for yourself and not for other people (eg. trying to impress guys/girls). You shouldn't be ashamed of your body because nobody is perfect. Its okay if you look different, as long as you're living healthily and you feel good about yourself, nothing else matters. I might not be the most confident about how I look and it may seem ironic to say all these but I guess I'm trying to convince myself too.

On a side note, a social experiment was done to test how girls and guys will react if their date is fat (looking different from their Tinder profiles) and I can conclude that guys are superficial creatures. Girls, maybe its a good thing to be bigger since we'll know who are the superficial jerks and who are genuinely into you. Likewise for guys, but you'd be comforted by the fact that in the experiment where the guy is fat, all the girls actually stayed for the whole date.

Anyway, hope I didn't butcher the song! And remember:
“You are imperfect, permanently and inevitably flawed. And you are beautiful.”

Music Lovin' #10 ( Who Am I To Stand In Your Way - Chester See )

9:48 PM

Hey people! I'm back since my prelims are over! But A levels is 37 days away (goddamnit) I should probably start work soon, but I have a feeling I'm going to be slacking till next tuesday coz' that's when school is back in full swing again. I don't have anything interesting to talk about so it's another music recommendation! An original song by 2 YouTubers, Chester See and its co written by Golden. Its a sappy love song, and it touched me because of how much emotions is poured into this song by Chester. I felt so so so sad for him, though I personally didn't go through a break up before, neither was I ever in love, but how he sang it, it touched my heart

On a side note, YouTuber, Bethany Mota, aka macbarbie07, is on DWTS! So proud of her! And Seventeen Magazine has a special YouTube issue (which is only available in the US. ARGH)
Also, I'm thinking about getting vocal lessons after A levels, which my sister thinks is a waste of money. BUT if I'm gonna be working and I have the money, why can't I do it. If you think about it, I'm learning a skill, which is much better than shopping and spending on material goods right? & I don't wanna learn driving as of yet, coz' the cars in Singapore are ridiculously expensive, I don't think I'll be driving one, let alone own one anytime soon. So why can't I learn how to sing. (Belinda is ranting again. what's new.) Have been really irritable nowadays, god I'm becoming such a cynical and horribly mean and impatient person. (I can list all my flaws but I hardly ever think I can really change them)

SO ANYWAY. Hope you enjoy the song and till next time! Cheerio!
