Hey guys! Sorry the post is a day late! But this post is gonna be mostly pictures and y'all can live vicariously through my pictures of the past 2 months, like I've said! The start of June, which was the start of my break, I went to Haji Lane with my friend for the first time! I know, I know, that's really slow of me. For those who don't know what's Haji Lane, its basically a hipster street with lots of indie shophouses which are really cool and artsy fartsy. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures but I believe most Singaporeans would know what it looks like, if not just google it. Love the vibe there and the stuff they sell! But they're all out of my budget, really cool clothings and accessories and other stuff. Maybe when I have the money?

Next, during the first week of June I went to my friend's house to make KIMCHI! Pretty fun experience and I met some of her other friends too. (Awkward turtle attempted to socialize here)

The breakfast I made for Father's Day! Here we have baked sweet potato fries, tuna salad and these scrambled egg muffins! Filled with spinach, tomato and bacon! So proud of myself, but the preparation and washing up was madness.

This was at Togi Restaurant(?) really really good if you're a korean food lover like me! Try their potato pancakes and ddeokbokki!

This was after a week of exams and we felt like we needed a break. So waffles at Assembly Coffee! Earl Grey Caramel Waffles! I liked it!

Steamboat at Hai Di Lao for my dad's very advanced birthday dinner! Usually people have to queue for 3 hours just to eat this, the service is really good and they provide entertainment while you queue too! The ingredients are fresh and the Ma La (hot spicy) soup base was not too spicy so that was a plus!

My Earl Grey and Lavender ice cream cone from Sunday's Folk which is a branch of Creamier. Love the flavour! 

This was really exciting! We had a learning journey (excursion) to the Art Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands!!!! We were lucky coz' there were some classes that had to go Labrador Park or some Malay Heritage Centre, but there was also the S.E.A Aquarium. 

The exhibitions they had was the Dinosaur exhibition and the Annie Leibovitz Exhibition. I was really really excited coz' I've never been to the museum and go for such exhibitions before! We only had 1 hour there though, so we were practically zooming past everything. I think I liked the Annie Leibovitz Exhibition a little more maybe because it made me feel more artistic and sophisticated just coz' I was "appreciating" art. I probably don't know much about photography but I did love the pictures that tell a story. They were really interesting and captivating, but unfortunately I don't really know how to appreciate the portraits of people, especially of people I don't know. Photography wasn't allowed in Leibovitz's exhibition, so no pictures for y'all! Really happy to have the opportunity to visit the museum.

After the exhibitions, I had Macarons! (Not macaroons! THEY ARE DIFFERENT. GET IT RIGHT.) From TWG, my favourite flavour of Moroccan Mint i think. 

And IIAO IIAO. (attention its IIao IIao and not LLAO LLAO, and it's pronounced at YAO YAO, we asked.) Its hyped up by many and I admit it's good, it tastes better than other froyos in the market ( I still love my Yami Yogurt) but I'm kind of sick of seeing people posting pictures of it around. (The irony coz' I'm posting it here) Pretty good but I kind of think its a tad bit over rated.

My Roast Beef on Sourdough, coz' they ran out of Rye. SO GOOD! This is from The Lokal by the way, a newly opened cafe owned by an Australian chef I think??? (correct me if I'm wrong) They make their own ricotta and yogurt so that's really cool. A tad bid pricier than your usual cafes but really good food. 

MY BANDAGE FROM DONATING BLOOD. I feel so proud of myself for doing it though I almost fainted from it (well I started feeling nauseous towards the end, when the bag was almost full) But still proud of myself nevertheless coz' I was so scared (a wimp I know). I got rejected the last time because I had a cough and was really disappointed but luckily the school hosts the blood donation drive twice a year. 

Okay so I actually just went to the Istana, which is actually August but you know it's close enough. The Istana is open to the public when there's an event or special occasion, in this case it's National day and Hari Raya Puasa. My mum wanted to go and since we've never been there before, I agreed. Honestly, there's nothing much, basically just ornaments and gifts they've received from other countries placed around. It was a long walk from the gate to the building.

Hey guys, I'm back with a book review! I actually read this book within a day! (cough cough Procrastination cough) First week back to school, after block tests and I'm not doing well. Was completely on an emotional roller coaster ride this week, physically, mentally and emotionally drained. All the stress, expectations, nagging and the loss of motivation is getting to me. I've been really snarky these few days and I actually snapped at my classmate just now. I felt a little bad about my mood swings but my mood's just not the best right now so forgive me for acting abnormally (I'm already weird but like bad weird). So this book came as a distraction for me. 

Eleanor & Park is set in 1986 with 2 misfits falling in love. Eleanor is the new girl in school, with bright red hair and has a bigger figure than your average teen, she stands out in the crowd, in the worst way possible. Park is a half korean going to a school with a majority of white students, he might not be at the bottom of the social ladder but neither was he in the top. An odd pair but yet they fit almost perfectly. Eleanor comes from a problematic (for a lack of better word) family which she struggles in with 4 other siblings. While Park though seemingly have a perfect family has his own problems too, though not as disastrous and horrifying. First love might not last but they gave it a try and fell madly in love.

The story was heartbreakingly beautiful. It was heart wrenching but also has its sweet moments between the 2. The narration of the story is switched between the 2 characters' point of view. Though there's a constant change in voices, I felt that the story still flowed and it was able to capture both of their feelings perfectly. Some may not like this form of narration and think its written this way for young readers with a short attention span but I disagree with that. I like it not because I have a short attention span, but because I can better understand the feelings of both parties. Though Eleanor's family background and situation might not be what I can relate to but I was able to feel her emotions and feel utterly distraught by what she was going through. Maybe some would say the problems are too far fetched and unrealistic, but in this world, such things do happen. And bullying is such a sensitive subject matter that I'm thankful for not having to go through such traumatic experiences. As much as I like happy endings, I do enjoy some angst in my story, its nice to just shed some tears (I sound like a sadist) and have and emotional workout(???) but usually after that I would search for some fluff to read to have a balance. I think it's nice to see a female character in a story that's not just a pretty face and finding her prince charming, but an unconventional beauty. It's kinda refreshing. 

I know, another young adult romance story... But you know, I think I might just like Eleanor and Park more than The Beginning Of Everything, though the latter is more obvious in telling us what the moral of the story was. I hope some of y'all might pick this book up and enjoy it. Do tell me if you do coz' I'd be really excited and tell me your feelings about it if possible! Cheerio & have a great weekend!

So last wednesday was Interact Investiture, which was also the day I've officially stepped down from Interact Club. Being an Interactor for about 2 and a half years had been alright but the thing I love most is that I've met some of the nicest people. I don't think I regretted joining Interact because at least I've tried something different since I've been a Chorister throughout primary and secondary school. Cliched as it sounds, I really wanted to help the community even though I believed I hardly made a difference in people's lives and honestly, I don't think I am the nicest or kindest or the most pure hearted person. I try to be, but I'm not perfect and I can admit I'm selfish at times. I'm glad that I've met different people in the club, and though we may not be the closest, but going for CCA with them really brightens up my day. I've met some of the funniest, nicest, friendliest and kindest people and without them, I don't think my Interact journey would have been as fun and fulfilling. What my weekly community service (CommServe) was to go down to the centre and tutor kids. I felt really stupid for not choosing the organisation wisely back when I first applied for Interact club, because I was allocated in an organisation located at Bukit Batok, which was horribly far way from my house. A trip from my house would take up 45min-1 hour but at least I had a direct bus. I don't think I was all that great as a tutor and I was not the most patient person well. Some of the kids were nice, some not so much... But I've managed to come thus far and I do hope that they did learn something from me, no matter how much they disliked me. I guess the greatest achievement I got from Interact was to travel to Batam (not very far but still overseas) for OCIP trip. It was terribly short but I felt useful since I was able to speak in Bahasa Indonesia. Despite having a rather unreasonable teacher in charge, though she can be nice at times, I'm still proud to be an Interactor, coz' god knows I just talked nonsense during the interview and is just lucky enough to get in. Love the people there and IG4 might not be the most bonded of groups but the people in it are still pretty amazing.

Hey people! Back with an update with Music Lovin'! Today's music recommendation is a cover of Lady Gaga's You & I by Elizabeth Gillies! I like the song You & I, but I love Liz's voice even more. She's crazy talented and pretty(hot) too! First knew about her through the TV series Victorious on Nickelodeon. Yes, I watch kids show, actually I USED to watch kids shows, now not really... I think Liz doesn't get enough attention, I mean Ariana Grande is so famous now, but I think Liz should get some attention too. Like Ariana Grande, Liz was also on 13, the broadway musical, that shows something already. Her voice is powerful and it is suited for many genres actually. She can sing jazz, rock, punk and straight up pop. There other covers she did and she actually writes her own songs too, one of which was featured on Victorious. Hopefully y'all enjoy this cover and her voice as much as I did!
