Reads! "The Beginning Of Everything" by Robyn Schneider

9:13 PM

A new post and series from me! Featuring books I've recently read and liked! Oh so exciting coz' although I like reading, they are usually chick lits or of the romance genre, which also kinda mean that they are not educational to the eyes of many. Personally, reading is just a past time and leisure for me. I do not seek to learn per say but to escape from the reality and delve into the fictional world. Because fictional worlds are so much more exciting and it helps us to forget our own problems for awhile and learn about the problems of fictional characters. I like easy reads that I can understand without me thinking too hard. So, anything with analogical stories about journeys and difficult vocabulary turns me off. Sounds very superficial and dense of me, but I'm not denying it if you think I am.

Anyway back to the book I was going to talk about. I started reading this book because of a youtuber, missglamorazzi, picked it up and the cover and title of the book kind of called out to me. (I totally judge a book by its cover, literally) I believe its of the young adult genre? I consider myself a young adult, so I think its suited my intellectual abilities. I hardly ever buy hardcover/paperback books, though I want to have my own collection of books, its just not a habit of mine to buy books from young. My mum mostly only allowed me to borrow books from the library, to discourage spending :( I downloaded the ebook version and read it on my book. I now have a sense of satisfaction to have my very own collection of ebooks on my play book library. This is my attempt to summarize the story, if it sucks, remember that I'm not a pro at reviewing books.

The Beginning of Everything revolves around Ezra, a high school student who was the popular jock. However, a car crash resulted in injuring his knee and ruining his athletic career and pushed him down the social hierarchy. From then on, he had new friends, met a new girl, Cassidy, (some romance ensues) and lead a different high school life. He learnt that for his whole life before the tragedy he had been playing the part of what everyone had expected him to be and how challenging it was to fit that mould. It is then through this tragedy that he rediscovers himself and be himself. He realised that tragic endings are also the start of new beginnings. (This is me looking at the blurb of the story and paraphrasing and adding my experience of reading this story)

This story was witty, heart wrenching and just so relatable to all of our lives even if its in a cliched high school setting, which many young adults books have. Schneider's writing has a nice flow and the voice she has taken for Ezra was well narrated which I especially love in this book. I have to point out that the high school setting and characters can be quite stereotypical. Some characters are rather underdeveloped which is a bummer but being able to connect with Ezra made up for it. This book might not be everybody's cup of tea, but if you're into contemporary romance and don't mind the stereotypical high school setting, this book might be the one for you.  Or if you're not a big reader or stopped for awhile, maybe this story will help you dive right into reading again.

People come and go in your life, the experiences you had with them would all influence your being, they "lent the spark, perhaps, or tendered the flame," but your life, your decision, the arson is yours. Oscar Wilde once said that to live is the rarest thing in the world, because most people just exist, and that's all. Start living.

Music Lovin' #7 (You Get What You Give - New Radicals)

5:12 PM

;0 Another Music' Lovin' update within a week you say? I was bored and hearing this song on the radio and my poddy (aka my iPod) made me remember how much I love this song. Actually I took notice of this song as it was covered by Glee on the season finale of season 3. This was covered by the 'seniors' of the glee club, which included Mark Salling! (much love) though sadly the recorded version didn't include his solo... ): The cover on Glee almost brought me to tears coz' the TV performance was heartwarming since they sang this song to their fellow glee clubbers as a farewell. You Get What You Give was a hit in the 90s and what can I say? I love this pop song, the rhythm and the band playing in the background is just awesome, especially the guitar part. It was featured in many movies before, like Scooby Doo 2, Flintstones etc (I probably heard the song before since I've watched those movies before) This song is purff, it has cheesy lyrics (which I actually like) but the ending lyrics were different and interesting:
Health insurance rip off lying

FDA big bankers buying
Fake computer crashes dining
Cloning while they're multiplying
Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson
Courtney love and Marilyn Manson
You're all fakes
Run to your mansions
Come around
We'll kick your ass in

With political issues being raised and celebrity dissing in the closing lyrics, it's a no wonder it has caught the media's attention. Hope y'all enjoy the song coz' I love it! Do watch the Glee version too, the performance if I must say, coz' it has Mark Salling and it was awesome. Till next time! Cheerio!

Music Lovin' #6 (Life Is Rosy - Jess Penner)

10:38 PM

I'm losing track of the number for this series of posts every single time... My memory is failing me. So today's song is a happy and peppy song that might not be everyone's thing. I think it's more feminine? Some might feel like the song lacks depth, but I think such songs are more light hearted and is just fun to listen to, without having to think too much about it. I can imagine myself getting ready in the morning to this song, many of Jess Penner's songs actually. It just instantly wakes me up and brightens up my day. It just gives off a really positive vibe, and I think everyone needs a bit of positivity in their life. Hope y'all enjoy this song! Cheerio!

End of my Interact journey

6:04 PM

So last wednesday was Interact Investiture, which was also the day I've officially stepped down from Interact Club. Being an Interactor for about 2 and a half years had been alright but the thing I love most is that I've met some of the nicest people. I don't think I regretted joining Interact because at least I've tried something different since I've been a Chorister throughout primary and secondary school. Cliched as it sounds, I really wanted to help the community even though I believed I hardly made a difference in people's lives and honestly, I don't think I am the nicest or kindest or the most pure hearted person. I try to be, but I'm not perfect and I can admit I'm selfish at times. I'm glad that I've met different people in the club, and though we may not be the closest, but going for CCA with them really brightens up my day. I've met some of the funniest, nicest, friendliest and kindest people and without them, I don't think my Interact journey would have been as fun and fulfilling. What my weekly community service (CommServe) was to go down to the centre and tutor kids. I felt really stupid for not choosing the organisation wisely back when I first applied for Interact club, because I was allocated in an organisation located at Bukit Batok, which was horribly far way from my house. A trip from my house would take up 45min-1 hour but at least I had a direct bus. I don't think I was all that great as a tutor and I was not the most patient person well. Some of the kids were nice, some not so much... But I've managed to come thus far and I do hope that they did learn something from me, no matter how much they disliked me. I guess the greatest achievement I got from Interact was to travel to Batam (not very far but still overseas) for OCIP trip. It was terribly short but I felt useful since I was able to speak in Bahasa Indonesia. Despite having a rather unreasonable teacher in charge, though she can be nice at times, I'm still proud to be an Interactor, coz' god knows I just talked nonsense during the interview and is just lucky enough to get in. Love the people there and IG4 might not be the most bonded of groups but the people in it are still pretty amazing.

Some of IG4 '2013, the funniest and friendliest people!

IG4'2014, though I'm not as close to them, still some of the nicest bunch!
